Style Files: Trace Urban Music Competition

DSC_4343

Recently, my company RTFC was hired by TRACE URBAN Nigeria to be the official stylist for it’s music competition. You can imagine how elated I was. It’s a competitive market with loads of established and equally competent stylists in Lagos, so being selected to be the stylist handling this job made me feel ecstatic. So the first stage of the job which is styling the contestants for the Lagos edition was meeting the 5 of them, taking their measurements and understanding what genre of music they were going to perform. This is so that their outfits are n’sync with their music choice & also that they feel good while performing.

The first Contestant, Aziga’s music selection was Pop/R&B and so I gave him a structured blue blazer which is styled with a brooch & pocket sqaure, blue pants in darker hue, printed t.shirt & white & blue Nikes. T.shirt was from Literati while Pants & Blazer were from Ennzo.

DSC_4330 The second Contestant, Onyinye’s music selection was R&B/ Pop and so I gave her a two toned jumpsuit with tiger print heels and some fun accessories to complement the look. Jumpsuit was from Nigerian brand K&K.

The third contestant, Hannah’s music selection was Soul, and so I gave her a flared blouse paired with sequined tasseled skirt from Nigerian Plus sized brand Tosfa, which I styled with sparkly accessories and nude low heels. I opted for Black because it is a great slimming colour choice.

DSC_4321 The fourth contestant, Ifeoluwa’s music selection was R&B, and so I gave her a printed culottes set from Nigerian fashion brand Osuare and paired the look with black cut out sandals & fun accessories.

DSC_4326 The fifth contestant, Edu’s music selection was Pop/Rock and for some reason I had Bruno Mars in mind as inspiration for styling him. I styled him a blue printed shirt, blue printed shirt, grey hat & oxford boots.

DSC_4336  I think I did a relatively good job (if I do say so myself). There were positive comments and the contestants pulled off the look while performing.

Edu won the contestant with N5,000.000. (Sighs). Maybe I should go into music…..Naaahhh! Fashion is my hustle.

Stay tuned for my next post!
